In fairness, I recently had a comment on a post on my Blog about bad service with 1and1 Internet. I have decided not to post the comment on my Blog as I do not post comments that are not able to use there real name, or choose not to.

The comment was regarding a mix up that a Lawyer/Blogger claimed that 1and1.com tried to steal his domain name. http://patterico.com I spent a few hours checking out the comments of the comment maker and found out there was a complaint that was made. The story was back in Oct 2008. I read the complete story as it was very long and found that this has all been resolved. The Blog also does have the domain name that he claimed was being stolen and auctioned off. I was not able to collect any more info regarding this story, as the comment form has been closed as of Nov. 22, 2008.
I have hosted with 1and1 Internet for many, many years and never once had any problems at all and I have used many of the services that they offer over the years. As with all large companies in this business world the customer service is outsourced and you may have a help desk person that does not have great English, if this a concern check it out first but all big company's outsource. I have worked in the past for AT&T as a Tech Support Rep for the AT&T wireless in the USA and I live in Canada. I also worked as Tech Support for Microsoft Windows XP, US English versions for the whole world and we were the #1 support desk for them, we had 900 employees in Nova Scotia. When I would get a call usually the first thing the customers would say was thank god you speak English. The #2 call center was in Bangalore, India.
I have also had many customers host their web sites with 1and1.com as well, and never have I heard one complaint. I have one friend that I turned on to 1and1 and she makes her living online and she has hosted her site with many before. She works all day, every day and she is very happy with the service. When you are the WORLDS LARGEST WEB HOSTING Company for sure you are going to have some mistakes, and as well some unhappy customers, it is a given.
As you can see I have links on my Blog about the 1and1.com Internet Service, I feel that this is a very good service, as well as what you get for the money. As they are by far the cheapest hosting service out there.
I would also like to say that when you choose a web hosting company it is always best to buy your web domain name 1st. from a domain name register in your Country, do not have your domain name owned by your web hosting company. Make sure you own your domain name and you are not renting it, just in case you want to transfer in the future.

Update: After more research, it seems that somebody thinks that the website domain name was being stolen, or even just messed with because the owner is a Blogger on the right, and it was done to shut him up!!!! I do not know what is right, you make your own mind up...

Choosing a good web site provider and registrar is critical for a successful internet business.
I have come to the conclusion that I made the dreadful error of choosing a company because it had a 5 page ad in a popular computer magazine. I believe I have put my trust in a straw man. In my opinion 1and1, with CEO Oliver Mauss, is a horrible company and many customers have voiced a host of complaints on various blogs.
It should be a warning that when their phone is answered by a recording that tells you if you have gotten a notice from NCO, a collection agency, to press a certain number. If they are a reputable business, why do they have to send so many accounts to a collection agency?
Also Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack, has written 30 articles about this company and has a suit pending against them. Kelli alleges that 1and1 stole her domain name and sold it. Kelli states: "1and1 should be shut down." As of today Kelli is working with the Pennsylvania Attorney General.
I have filed complaints with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Trade Commission, Eastern Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau, ICANN, and others. I recommend everyone else having a problem consider doing the same.
The Washington DC, Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as "Unsatisfactory" Read comments on the BBB why. Read some customer comments on Red Flag.

If you have been following this Blog Post I have said in the past, when you are the largest website housting company in the world you are sure to have some unhappy customers as well as make a few mistakes along the way. This post about Warth Publishing Inc. or Patterico.com reference is true.
I have had a very good experience for many years with 1and1.com and http://patterico.com has not. He has been able to fix the problem and does have his domain name back. I would say that this may have been a very trying experience for him and 1and1.com has finally fixed it.
Like I said before; Buy your Domain name before you host your site. DO NOT RENT IT. DO YOUR RESEARCH.

Michael, you can defend 1and1 all you want, but the fact is that they are a bunch of thieves and liars. And incompetent to boot.
And I'm not afraid to post my name. It's Brian Gothard. 1and1 took over a month to perform a contract transfer, denying both the seller and myself access to 270+ domains for the entire time. Then when I refused to pay for some of the domains that expired during their mishandling of the transfer, they repeatedly acted like it was my fault I didn't cancel them using their system, when the domains were never in my account. After three months of submitting proof of their failures, they still have my account locked and have turned me over to their collection agency.

They screwed up the transfer, then screwed up the billing. I have been repeatedly lied to and treated like I created this situation. Not by any off shore tech support, but by David Rubel, Billing Manager, and Damion Son, reportedly in "upper management".
I have documented their errors and deceit on the site above.
They do not care about their customers. If you ever have a real problem, all you get is the runaround and boilerplate emails explaining how you did something wrong, even when you submit iron clad proof of their mistakes.
So I cannot let them off as easily as you do. They are an atrocious excuse for a company and I will support any effort to make them accountable for their despicable actions against their clients.

Like I have said before 1and1 is a very larg web hosting company and like all large companyies you are going to have dissatisified customers. As well some of these problems can be comapny related as well as user related and it is not up to me to decide who is write your wrong all I can say is that I have never had any issues with 1and1 at all. Do your home work before you choose your web hosting company.
